The Eisenhower Dollar, also known as “Ike Dollars, ” were minted between 1971 & 1978 and was the first US silver dollar minted since 1935! The GSA Dollar, also known as the “Brown Ikes” due to the color of its packaging, was a program where the General Services Administration from the government instructed the US Mint to place the coins in special promotional packaging to sell the coins as collector’s items. The 1973-S Silver proof is the rarest and most valuable key date of the entire Ike series because of their low mintage numbers of just over 1 million coins. The coins are still in the original GSA Mint packaging, which is the brown presentation box with a simulated wood grain finish–total 70’s throwback décor! They’ve never seen the light of day since they left the Mint so you know they’ll be in pristine shape! You almost NEVER find coins from the Mint in this type of packaging.
